Tokyo is taking over Chinatown!

After becoming a vegetarian I was surprised to find a lack of online information regarding restaurants in London, or elsewhere, serving vegetarian dishes. That's why every time I find a delicious vegetarian dish I'm going to let you know about it! Enter Ichibuns!

Ichibuns is the new concept by Robin Leigh, the guy behind Busaba Eathai and Nobu, and is located in the heart of London's Chinatown. The restaurant is mostly meat and fish based with burgers and sushi coming out of the kitchen. However, they do have one vegetarian dish that prompted me to write this article. The vegetarian harumaki! What is harumaki you ask? It's the Japanese way of saying crispy spring roll which makes it all sound less exotic but no less appetizing.

What makes this vegetarian harumaki special compared to regular vegetable spring rolls is that it's filled with Quorn, cheese, gherkin, ketchup, mustard and classic burger sauce. It's not the healthiest thing you can eat as it's deliciously deep fried but I've not stopped thinking about it! It has become a staple on my unhealthy veggie dishes list.

Another great aspect of Ichibuns is the eclectic interior that pays homage to Japan's post war 'Shōwa Era'. All three floors have a different theme and our favourite is the Tokyo underground club vibe found in the basement. It's like a set straight out of Bladerunner 2049 and even has a live DJ spinning tunes out of a car.

Ichibuns is a great place to visit for both meat eating friends and veggies as there is something for everyone. It can be found at 22 Wardour St, London W1D 6QQ and is also open until 2:00 AM which makes this a perfect post-drinking food binge spot.
