Dubai: Atlantis The Palm

When thinking about the holiday season, Dubai is probably not the first place that comes to mind. However, due to the large amount of tourists from Europe all the Dubai hotels and resorts put on a fantastic Christmas display.

Even though you won't see many nativity scenes Dubai has embraced the holiday season with grand display's of polar landscapes, gingerbread houses, ice rinks and Santa Claus. But there is one resort that goes above and beyond to create that ultimate Christmas feel and that's Atlantis The Palm, Dubai.

The resort is filled with decorated Christmas trees and sparkling lights and features a Santa's Grotto for the kids. Also, a themed winter village where kid's can indulge in candy crafts and other activities. For adults, the Atlantis always has some great events around this time of year like beach concerts and an incredible New Year's Eve Gala! You won't want to miss this gala.

Aruba: Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Spa

You probably know Aruba from the famous Beach Boy's song Kokomo but let me tell you why this Caribbean island is a great Christmas destination. The Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino is one of the best hotels on the island hands down. Expect the hotel to be decorated all around with lights, trees, and gingerbread houses with delicious treats on offer. There are plenty of events for young and old including bingo, happy hour and expect lots of Christmas music, with a Caribbean flair of course.

What makes Aruba so special for Christmas is that the whole island really embraces the Christmas atmosphere and puts on the most elaborate light display. There are tours that go around the island that will show you the most beautifully decorated houses and light shows with the highlight being the the hill of Seroe Preto.

Be ready to love Aruba during Christmas and to say Bon Pasco y Bon Aña – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Tenerife: Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque

If you like a more traditional Christmas celebration we can definitely recommend the Spanish tropical island of Tenerife. Nestled away off the coast of Morocco, the island is part of The Canary's archipelago which has tropical weather all year around. One of the best resorts is Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque which sits on the newly developed Costa Adeje and mixes Spanish village style with that of California beachside.

The Spanish always have a more traditional take on Christmas with a focus on the religious aspect and this is also reflected in the more sober yet classy approach to decorations in the hotel. Expect some beautifully decorated tree's but nothing over the top as some of the other resorts mentioned above.

There are a few things that really stand out and make Tenerife an excellent Christmas destination. The first is that even though there is less of an American Christmas feel they surely make up for it in their lavish religious decorations like the Bélen. These are extremely detailed grand Nativity Scenes on display throughout the different towns on the island. There are Bélen routes to follow or you can try to track them down yourself for some scavenger hunt fun.
