Will mutants finally be appearing in the MCU?!

The latest trailer for The New Mutants is out and the film looks good?!

First, I'm happy with the cast of actors who'll be portraying the New Mutants. Second, I'm even happier because they kept their native accents from their countries. You have Rahne who's Scottish...

Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane

...and Illyana who's Russian. I've been very vocal about the fact that I get highly irritated when American films "Americanize" characters and take away their accents and ethnic origins.

Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik

For example, Halle Berry's Storm in X-Men had an accent but then in the sequel X2: X-Men United her accent was completely gone. Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow has never for a minute sounded Russian in any of the Avenger films. Those who would argue she's a spy and got rid of her accent forget that she has no reason to hide who she truly is anymore from her teammates and that includes her Russian heritage. Even now, Marvel is slowing stripping away Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch Eastern European accent.

Keep their native accents!

But I digress.

The New Mutants is the last remnants of the X-Men films from 20th Century Fox before the Disney acquisition. For a while, people didn't believe the film would see the light of day - especially with all the delays. But now, Marvel is finally happy with the reshoots and perhaps those reshoots have something to do with making it loosely tied into the MCU.

A D23 newsletter seemed to have confirmed The New Mutants in the MCU but it has since been deleted from the Disney website.

But if The New Mutants turns out to be a good film and successful in the box office I wouldn't be surprised to see Marvel somehow bring it into the MCU fold. With everything that Marvel has lined up for Phase 4 let's see how Marvel could bring the New Mutants into the MCU.

Dani Moonstar / Mirage

Blu Hunt as Dani Moonstar / Mirage

Dani’s mutant power is the ability to manifest people's fears or desires as realistic illusions. Theoretically, Dani could be creating the illusion of the Demon Bear who's the main villain in the film.

The Demon Bear in The New Mutants

Or even more, she could be creating the entire scenario the New Mutants find themselves as a huge illusion.

Marvel could say the New Mutants have been in the MCU all this time but where secluded off somewhere stuck in Dani’s illusion.

Illyana Rasputin / Magik

Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik

One of the new mutants we’re going to see is Illyana Rasputin / Magik. Fans will know that Illyana is the younger sister of the metal skin mutant Colossus who we've seen in the X-Men and Deadpool films. Illyana is a super powerful mutant with abilities such as:

Sorcery - Illyana can wield vast amounts of energy and use it for a variety of spells and enchantments.

Eldritch Armor - Illyana can summon mystical armor for protection and increase physical strength. You can see this forming on her arm in The New Mutants trailer.

Soulsword - Ilyana can focus her lifeforce into a powerful sword that has a wide array of mystical attributes. Again, you can see it the trailer.

Teleportation - Illyana can teleport through time and space while passing through the demon dimension Limbo. Now, remember Limbo because this will be important later.

During her youth, Illyana had trouble focusing her powers and would accidentally find herself teleporting through time when she would only be trying to teleport through space. What if her film adaptation can teleport across multi-verses?!

That could be the reason why these actors can easily make it across into the prime MCU dimension with Illyana teleporting them there. Or maybe she senses a tear in the fabric of reality and uses that as an opportunity to escape in the post-credits scene. A tear caused by…

Wanda Maximoff / The Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / The Scarlet Witch

We know crazy things are happening with The Scarlet Witch. With her upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision and starring in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - which I think should be called Dr. Strange & The Scarlet Witch in the Multiverse of Madness - either way, we know that Wanda’s powers are growing to such an extent that she's warping reality.

The use of Wanda has a plot device to bring the New Mutants into the MCU isn’t that strange especially by comic book standards. We know there are so many different universes in the comic books already and the MCU is establishing this too.

Perhaps as Wanda descends into madness and starts to mess with the multiverse she somehow causes the New Mutants to merge into the main MCU universe.

Dr. Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange / Dr. Strange

We know Dr. Strange will be dealing with the multiverse in his next film. We also know that Nightmare may be the main villain in the film. In the comics, Nightmare comes from a dream dimension and can draw power from the psychic energies of the subconscious minds of dreaming beings.

Nightmare in Marvel Comics

But what if instead of the dream dimension he comes from the demon dimension of Limbo! The same Limbo Illyana passes through when she teleports. In that way, we can see a scene where Dr. Strange senses Illyana because of her magic potential and brings her forth into the main MCU.

I like the idea of the New Mutants coming into the main MCU reality because of a connection between Dr. Strange and Illyana or Wanda and Illyana. Marvel has a prime opportunity to bring three of the most powerful sorcerers in the Marvel comics together into the MCU and have them interacting on screen.

In the comics, Wanda and Illyana have been tutored in their sorcery by Dr. Strange and now seems like a good time to start bringing more magic into the MCU.
